Head Elf Madeleine's
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
Ingredients
-
½ cup butter
-
½ cup brown sugar
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 large egg
-
1â…› cups all-purpose flour
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
½ teaspoon baking soda
-
1 bag (6 ounces) chocolate chips
-
½ cup chopped walnuts, optional
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
-
Melt the butter. While it is still hot, stir in the brown sugar and granulated sugar. Let the mixture cool slightly.
-
Combine the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
-
Add the egg and vanilla. Lightly beat the egg, then stir it and the vanilla into the cooled butter and sugar mixture.
-
Make the dough by adding the butter mixture to the dry ingredients and stirring until just combined.
-
Add the chocolate chips and walnuts, if using, and stir until evenly distributed.
-
Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
-
Shape the cookies into walnut-sized balls and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet.
-
Bake for about 10 minutes. Do not overbake. These cookies are best when they stay soft and chewy in the center.
-
Cool briefly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
Santa’s Serving Suggestion
Serve right out of the oven while the chocolate chips are still soft, preferably with a cold glass of milk.

And if Head Elf Madeleine catches you sneaking a little cookie dough before they make it into the oven, just remember: quality control is important at the North Pole.
