Head Elf Madeleine's Sugar Cookies for Rolling Out
Ingredients
Ingredients
-
1¼ cups butter, softened
-
2 cups granulated sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
5 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
4 teaspoons baking soda
-
1 teaspoon nutmeg
-
½ cup milk
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or leave them ungreased.
-
Mix the dry ingredients first. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, and nutmeg until evenly combined.
-
Prepare the wet mixture. In a separate large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and smooth.
-
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
-
Add the milk and mix until well combined.
-
Make the dough by gradually adding the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until a soft, workable dough forms.
-
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to approximately ¼-inch thick.
-
Cut out the cookies using your favorite cookie cutters. For Christmas, try Santa, reindeer, stockings, stars, Christmas trees, or gingerbread people.
-
Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each one.
-
Bake for 8–10 minutes at 375°F, or until the cookies are set and the edges are just beginning to turn lightly golden.
-
Cool for about 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Decorate once completely cool with your favorite icing, sprinkles, or Christmas decorations.
